More or less, many people believe that through reading books written by authors who are well-known or very wealthy that they will learn what they need to. I was just recently reading through the book Web Analytics 2.0 by a well established author who donates all the proceeds to two charities, and I was shocked when I noticed something.

This book is literally just the authors take on what he believes to be SEO! It is not a book about how to optimize and what steps you need to take and where potential failures can happen... it is more like a 500 page stretched opinion on what its like to experience SEO and what SEO is.

I must give credit to the author for his extensive knowledge on the subject matter, but I do not wish to give much credit to helping readers learn and achieve their goals at getting higher search engine rankings. There is a MAJOR difference between effective helpful advice being:

Twitter and Facebook are excellent social media outlets which should be utilized in order to effectively spread your websites name across the search engines for higher rankings.

and REAL advice like:

Twitter and Facebook have proven to be extremely powerful, so get out there and create an account! Search for groups that are relative to yours, join them, add friends, post on peoples pages! Tweet about your services and websites and give inside scoops. Follow people, utilize the "who to follow" to find people to follow who will most likely auto-follow you back!

What is really crazy is although the author appears to be a good citizen by donating money to the charities, he is really just building his own reputation. I mean if you think about it, just the fact alone that he has been donating to these charities means that people will be more likely to read up on him!
